Blue Wahoo stadium will become a mecca for Big Green Egg lovers Nov. 9 at Pensacola Egg Fest, presented by Pensacola Kia Autosport. Fans of the signature ceramic grill are in for samples, demos, raffles and more at the event this weekend. The price of admission is $25 and all of the proceeds of the event will go to Chain Reaction, a local nonprofit teen volunteer agency. (Details: Visit Chain Reaction) The head egghead for the event is Gerald Hall, who by day is director of business development Landrum Human Resources. By night, he might be found cooking lobster mac and cheese on one of his two Big Green Eggs.

"It is a barbecue grill that is more versatile than any other I’ve owned," he says. "You can turn it up to 700 or down 200 for 18 hours and do a Boston butt or brisket, or put it at 300 and use it as a convection oven."

The beauty of the egg? “They will last forever,” Hall says. “I know people who have had the grill itself since the 1980s.”

Eggfests go on across the country. Pensacola EggFest will have a judged component where chefs will compete, but, Hall says the best part is that the public at large is invited to come, sample, and see what makes the Cult of Big Green Eggs so special.

About 500 tickets had been sold and hopes were high that more would sell up until the day of. Some 40 teams are set to show their egg expertise.
