What we love about Pensacola

I know what I love about Pensacola. I love the water. I knew I was a Pensacolian when I began to drive home the long way from work so that I could see either Pensacola Bay along Bayfront Parkway or Escambia Bay from Scenic Highway. Seeing the water does my soul good. Seeing the Gulf of Mexico — abiding and abundant, powerful and soothing all at once — is one of the ways I am reminded daily of our place in the universe and the hand of the divine in my life. I also love the fact that after 14 years here, I no longer own a wool sweater, and that “cold" to me is 65 degrees. But for Pensacola to be the jewel of the Gulf Coast, it needs to overcome its deep dependence on lower wage scale jobs, it needs to firmly commit itself to a public education system that reaches all children of all socioeconomic backgrounds and it needs to keep an open civic mind about doing things in new ways. We want Progress+Promise to be a vehicle to help celebrate our successes and highlight solutions to our remaining challenges. Watch the first episode of our TV show and learn more about what we hope to do. Please enjoy our first episode. [progresspromise]
