A large swath of the city of Pensacola is under a mandatory boil water notice in the wake of Tuesday night’s massive rain event.

Just about 1:45 p.m., ECUA adjusted the boundaries of the mandatory boil water notice area. Now residents who live in the area bordered by Interstate 10 to the north; Tippin and 12th Avenue to the west; and east and south to Escambia and Pensacola bays should boil water for cooking and drinking.

The original notice area was from Creighton Road south to the bayfront and from Interstate 110 east to Scenic Highway. the notice is linked to a massive road cave in on Scenic Highway.

Any water to be used for drinking or cooking should be boiled for one minute at a rolling boil or use six drops of unscented regular household bleach per gallon of water.

Two independent bacteriological samples have been initiated and the advisory will be lifted as soon as possible. This process routinely takes 48 hours, according to the advisory posted to the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority website at 11:12 a.m.

A separate boil water notice was issued by ECUA at 12:12 p.m. due to a water main break for Calvin Street between Rhonda and Orby streets; Orby Street west from Calvin to the dead end; Nowlin Street; Daniel Street; Rufus Street; and Rhonda Street between Calvin and Rufus.

Questions: Call ECUA at (850) 476-0480.
