Pensacon is doing its part to help the inaugural Foo Foo Fest take off in Pensacola Expo.

Pensacon organizers announced that the Pensacola Pop Expo is set for Nov. 15 as part of the Pensacola Foo Foo Festival, a 10-day mega event that aims to raise the area’s cultural entertainment profile in the region.

The Pensacola Pop Expo will include “guests, artists, food, drinks, music, cosplay, performances, demonstrations and more in a festival atmosphere,” according to the Facebook page, and a free outdoor screening of the classic 1984 comedy “Ghostbusters” with special guest Ernie Hudson.

Hudson was a guest at Pensacon this past February, which drew thousands of fans of sci-fi, fantasy, comics and more to the Pensacola Bay Center. Hudson’s credits include “The Crow”, the HBO series “Oz” and a slew of TV shows. His filmography as an actor on the Internet Movie Database includes 200 titles.

A call to artists for a very special themed art show for the expo will be going out soon.

The Pop Expo is part of Foo Foo Fest, an event planned by the Arts, Culture and Entertainment Inc., a nonprofit that supports the Pensacola area’s arts community. Pensacon received a $31,570 grant from ACE to help with its event, one of 15 such awards given to local groups to put on events from Nov. 6-17.

Foo Foo FestFoo Foo Fest will tie together established events including the Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival, the Blue Angels Homecoming air show, the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival, and the Pensacola Marathon, with new events that will highlight the cultural vibrancy of our area.

The ACE grants total $242,112.87 and are funded by bed tax collections that are dispersed through ACE.
