Below are upcoming events at the University of West Florida for the week of October 12-19.

BioBlitz

Date: Oct. 12, 2014 Time: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Location: Edward Ball Nature Trail Details: Join us at the 1st annual BioBlitz on the Edward Ball Nature Trail behind Building 13. Teams of volunteer scientists, families, students teachers and other community members will work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi and other organisms as possible. This 24-hour event will facilitate the exploration of UWF’s Edward Ball Nature Trail; increase public exposure to the diverse and unique habitats within UWF; and highlight and demonstrate the biodiversity that exists on the UWF campus landscape.

Dr. Saundra McGuire Public Lecture

Date: Oct. 13, 2014 Time: 5 to 7:30 p.m. Location: UWF Conference Center Details: Dr. Saundra McGuire, Director Emerita for the Center for Academic Success and retired Assistant Vice Chancellor & Professor of Chemistry at Louisiana State University, will give a public lecture entitled, "Metacognition: The Key to Lifelong Learning." A reception will be held from 5 to 5:45 p.m. with the lecture beginning at 6 p.m.

Nursing Lab Ribbon Cutting & Donor Recognition

Date: Oct. 15, 2014 Time: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Location: UWF Pensacola Campus – Building 37 Details: Join us for the grand opening of the Department of Nursing Informatics Lab, funded in part by the generosity of Drs. Robert Hoyt, FACP, and Ann Yoshihashi, FACE. The DONi lab is part of the new Nursing Skills and Simulation Learning Center.

Pen Air Federal Credit Union Financial Boot Camp

Date: Oct. 16, 2014 Time: 4 to 6 p.m. Location: UWF Pensacola Campus – College of Business Details: Pen Air Federal Credit Union and the UWF College of Business Executive Mentor Program will present "Financial Boot Camp" on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the College of Business Education Center, Room 102. Snacks and beverages will be provided. This workshop will teach students about personal finance and preparing for post-grad life. Speakers from Pen Air Federal Credit Union will include Mr. Stewart Ramsey, President/CEO; Mr. Scott A. Arkills, EVP/Chief Operating Officer; and Mr. John Heckmann, ALM Specialist.

Rite of Passage Lecture Series Event

Date: Oct. 17, 2014 Time: 2 to 4 p.m. Location: Argonaut Athletic Club Details: Rite of Passage is a distinguished lecture series celebrating UWF faculty members recently promoted to full professor. The professors present a lecture on a topic of their choosing. The lecture and reception will feature: Dr. Robin Blyn, Professor of English, College of Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities Dr. Jane Caffrey, Professor of Biology, College of Science, Engineering & Health.

UWF at Gallery Night

Date: Oct. 17, 2014 Time: 5 to 9 p.m. Location: Downtown Pensacola Details: UWF will be located near the intersection of Palafox and Government Streets in downtown Pensacola for Gallery Night. Join us between 5 and 9 p.m. for fun, games and a free photo booth.

Startup Weekend Pensacola

Date: Oct 17-19, 2014 Location: UWF Pensacola Campus – College of Business Details: The third annual Startup Weekend Pensacola will take place Oct. 17-19 at the UWF College of Business. The annual 52-hour event connects local entrepreneurs, developers, designers and startup enthusiasts with mentors and resources to build and launch a product in a single weekend.
