Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union has announced that they will make a $20,000 donation to Manna Food Pantries during the first day of their annual ‘Fill the Mayflower’ event at Cordova Mall. At 6 p.m. today, Gulf Winds President and CEO, Chris Rutledge and members of the Gulf Winds Board of Directors will present the donation to Manna Executive Director DeDe Flounlacker. The three-day drive aims to fill a Mayflower moving van to help battle hunger in our community. The Mayflower van will be parked at Cordova Mall at Ninth Avenue and Airport Boulevard from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. today; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 25 and 7 a.m. to noon on Nov. 26. Flounlacker said Fill the Mayflower is Manna’s single largest food drive of the year. It is doubly important as Manna recovers from the April flood that damaged the Tarragona and Gonzalez Street warehouse and destroyed all the food on hand. While all nonperishable food donations will be accepted, the most needed items are peanut butter (16 oz.), canned chicken and tuna, canned fruit, canned tomatoes, dry beans (1 lb. bag) and breakfast items (cereal, oatmeal and grits). Manna helped more than 32,000 people this year with food. An Emergency Food Assistance Program, Manna provides assistance a maximum of four times a year through a network of four pantries in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
