Pensacola Symphony hits Foo Foo, Seville Square

The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra has its hand in two special events this weekend. The first event is at 8 p.m. Nov. 8 as part of Foo Foo Festival.  The Symphony's concert “Clarinet Bel Canto” at the Saenger Theatre. It is is the second concert of the Masterworks Series and features the New York Philharmonic’s principal clarinetist, Anthony McGill. This September, McGill was named principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic after serving as principal clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for the past decade. He has been recognized as one of the classical music world’s finest solo, chamber, and orchestral musicians. The concert opens with the Overture to The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini. McGill is featured next in two compelling pieces, Concertino for Clarinet by Donizetti and Clarinet Concerto by Copland. During intermission and after the concert, there will be a “Meet and Greet” with Anthony McGill – he will have CDs available for purchase and signing. Tickets for “Clarinet Bel Canto” start at only $22 – available at pensacolasymphony.com, by phone at 850-435-2533, and at the Saenger Theatre, on the corner of Palafox and Intendencia. Additionally, there is a special matinee dress rehearsal before the concert beginning at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Palafox entrance of the Saenger Theatre beginning an hour prior. – On Sunday Nov. 9, catch "Symphony in the Square" as part of the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival at 1:30 p.m. in Seville Square. The performance is free and will feature pop hits from jazz hits to patriotic tunes. Clarinet Bel Canto’ is sponsored by Sacred Heart Health System, and Foo Foo Fest through Arts, Culture, and Entertainment, Inc. Yamaha piano provided by Dollarhide’s Music Center.
