Career Alliance recognizes education partners

More opportunities for students to get involved in information technology classes, computer science and computer engineers are available. Find out about them at the Florida IT Career Alliance press conference on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Pensacola State College in the Edward M. Chadbourne Library, room 2051. The Alliance will recognizing their high school and college education partners, to include Workman Middle and Pine Forest High schools, as well as Pensacola State College. Schools who partner with the Alliance received funds to help improve their technology and computing programs. Participating in the press conference from Escambia County Schools will include Lori Anderson, the district’s Workforce Education specialist; Frank Murphy, Pine Forest High School principal; Angela Irby, PFHS cybersecurity teacher; and a PFHS cybersecurity student. Later this year, a grant from the Florida IT Career Alliance will fund travel and participation for Irby and two Pine Forest High School cybersecurity students to attend the National Cyberpatriot Competition, in Washington, D.C. in March. In addition, Pam Ridings, Workman Middle School’s Robotics and Energy Academy teacher, will participate in the press conference. Ridings has benefitted from a Florida IT Alliance grant by attending the Technology Student Association Advisory Training. The goal of the conference, and this partnership between the IT Alliance and Escambia County Schools, is to highlight increased opportunities for student engagement in IT classes, computer science, computer engineering. An additional goal of the partnership is to encourage partnerships between industry and educational institutions that work toward the future placement of students in the technology and computing career fields.
