With the Senate expected to take up the issue during the first week of the legislative session, a South Florida House member filed a bill Thursday that would set reporting requirements for injuries to racing greyhounds. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Coral Springs, filed the proposal (HB 129), which is identical to a bill (SB 2) filed by Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood. Both bills are named the "Victoria Q. Gaetz Racing Greyhound Protection Act," after animal-rights supporter Vicky Gaetz, the wife of Sen. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville. Senate President Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, said Wednesday the Senate is expected to approve the bill during the first week of the session, which starts in March. The proposal, in part, would require greyhound injuries to be reported within seven days and spells out a list of information that would have to be submitted.
