Pensacola Police sergeant retiring

A reception is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 30, at police headquarters to honor a sergeant who is retiring after almost three decades with the Pensacola Police Department.

Sgt. Michael Simmons, 52, will retire on Jan. 2, 2015 after being employed the past 29 years with the Pensacola Police Department.

Simmons was hired Jan. 2, 1986, as a police officer and was promoted to sergeant on Nov. 23, 1998. Among his assignments at the department have been Uniform Patrol, TAC, Investigations, Community Relations, Traffic, Pensacola International Airport, and Neighborhood Policing. He is currently assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division.

The reception is scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pensacola Police Department, 711 N. Hayne St.
