Just over 1,000 camellia blooms were on display during The Pensacola Camellia Club’s 76th annual Camellia Show and Plant Sale Saturday at First Baptist Church in downtown Pensacola. The show had exhibitors from five states—Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi as well as Florida competing for 80 prizes in four divisions as well as special awards and a design division. In addition, there were floral displays, sponsored by the Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs, using camellias as part of the décor. The show is adjudicated according to the rules of the American Camellia Society.  There is a “novice” category for camellia growers who have not won major prizes in previous camellia shows in Pensacola or elsewhere. Currently there are over 250 members in the Pensacola Camellia Club. In February there will be a Community Camellia Show for the “average” camellia gardener and there will also be  free camellia garden tours  Valentine’s day.  For more details see the clubs website at www.pensacolacamelliaclub.com.
