Beginning today through February 13, motorists may experience intermittent lane closures on Pensacola Beach as Escambia County Contractor crews and the Santa Rosa Island Authority work to enhance the pedestrian crossings from the Beach Marina/Quiet Water Beach Area to Avenida 23. The improvements will consist of pedestrian crossing signage, pavement markings and pedestrian activated warning sign installation.  These improvements are being implemented to enhance pedestrian safety and to reflect recent Statutory changes in Florida's pedestrian law, which mandate that motorists stop when approaching pedestrians within a marked, mid-block crosswalk. This project is funded by Local Option Sales Tax. Motorists are reminded to use caution when travelling through the work zones. All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather. For more information, please call Alan Thedford at (850) 595-3424 or follow Escambia County on Twitter @myescambia or @mypensacolabch.
