Montessori School of Pensacola is hosting an open house at 9 a.m. on Feb. 24. The school is at 4100 Montessori Drive, Pensacola. The events will offer an opportunity for parents to meet with school administrators and teachers, tour the grounds and ask questions during the fall open enrollment period beginning Feb. 9. The Montessori method – first laid down in 1907 by Italian teacher and physician Maria Montessori – emphasizes self-motivation, creativity and collaboration. Hands-on materials are used to illustrate and solidify abstract ideas, and students are actively engaged in planning and evaluating their own work. "We invite everyone to come to our open house. Come learn about MSP, which has been part of our community for more than 35 years, and the unique aspects of Montessori education." says Head of School, Maria Mitkevicius, “This is great chance to tour the campus, see the classrooms in action, ask questions, and receive materials about Montessori education and MSP.” An additional informational meeting for parents is at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 in the Media Center at for the MSP Elementary Transitions Program. ETP is a program developed for children entering grades 1-6 who have struggled in areas such as reading, mathematics, language, written expression, attention, socialization and organization. At the heart of the highly structured ETP classroom are learning plans personalized for each student, unique activities, one-on-one coaching, and group sizes of no more than five students per teacher.
