This time, Mike Thorpe brought home the prize. This afternoon, Thorpe won the 2015 Innovative Technology Principal Award, sponsored by the Florida Council of Instructional Technology Leaders to recognize outstanding leaders in the area of instructional technology. It is the second time in four years that Thorpe has been nominated for the award. “It is fantastic,” Thorpe said. “My whole career, technology has been at the center of my career. This is kind of the pinnacle of that and the validation of a lot of effort over many years.” Now Thorpe moves on to the national competition in June in Philadelphia. Thorpe led an effort that saw Milton High School rise from a D on state standardized tests to an A. (Click here to read more about that achievement.) “Our folks know that I’m standing at the podium, but I’m standing on their shoulders,” Thorpe said. “It’s a tough time in education right now. I hope this energizes our campus, and refocuses us and says we can. “We can overcome. Throw it at us.”
