It’s not time to play ball yet, but Wahoo’s stadium was a very exciting place to be yesterday. The Pensacola Today Short List for Tuesday, Jan. 20 includes: Bubba Watson buys share of Blue Wahoos BubbaBall is coming to Blue Wahoos’ stadium! The two-time Masters champion and Bagdad native on Monday announced his purchase of an ownership share in the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. “It feels weird wearing a hat because I usually wear a visor,” said Watson, as the crowd of about 200 people in the stands broke out in laughter. “It’s great to be an owner with the logo ‘BW.'” Watson said he purchased a share in the team because he is a huge baseball fan, but also because he wants to use it as a platform to give back to the city that gave him an opportunity. John Johnson, Executive Director of the Coalition says there needs to be a fundamental shift in the way their community approaches homelessness. “We’ve been giving the homeless what we think they need,” Johnson said. “We need to engage them and ask, ‘Are you ready to end your homelessness?” Read Mollye Barrows’ story here.   $25 million hotel, with 160 rooms, headed to Navarre Beach Plans on moving forward to build the first new hotel on Navarre Beach since Hurricane Ivan closed the last one standing ten years ago. “We are planning on about 160 rooms. Construction should start early this year,” said Joe Farley, who will be general manager of the hotel. “The brand is still yet to be determined.” Read more here.   IMPACT 100 looking for members in Milton — and another million dollar year IMPACT 100, the women’s group that has given millions to charitable causes in Escambia and Santa Rosa county is holding a membership recruitment and non-profit candidate event tonight at the Imogene Theatre in Milton – a theater one of their grants helped to rebuild. “We have quite a few members in Santa Rosa County, but we always want members from wherever we can get them,” said Cyndi Warren, president of IMPACT 100. “We also want Santa Rosa non-profits to apply. We will talk to people about becoming members and making sure the non-profits that they love, work with and are passionate about know about IMPACT.”  Read Louis Cooper’s story here.
