Don’t go to lunch until you read the Pensacola Today Short List for Jan. 14. Beulahfest hangs it up. After 28 years, the organizers of Beulahfest have decided to call it quits. The popular festival began in 1986 near the Beulah Volunteer Fire Department on Nine Mile Road, featuring a sausage festival and music and grew to a well-attended festival with national performers,  vendors and rides. “With heavy heart, the committee has decided to forgo the 2015 BeulahFest and any subsequent festivals,” according to press release from the BeulahFest Committee. “Unfortunately, we were not able to secure those funds to produce the same quality of entertainment that we have provided in the past.” Read the story here. “American Sniper” benefit screening tonight Heroic former Navy SEAL Kevin Lacz plays himself onscreen in Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper,” but he’s also making a heroic impact offscreen this Wednesday night at a sold out charity screening of the film at the Breeze Cinema 8 in Gulf Breeze. The screening, at which Lacz will participate in a question and answer discussion, benefits several veteran’s charities, both national and local. “It’s going to be awesome,” Lacz said. Vickrey Center repairs ready to move The City of Pensacola’s Parks and Recreation Department announced that repairs to the Vickrey Community Center should begin in March and wrap up later this year. The popular center has been closed since the flooding of April 29-30 damaged it. Read more here. Meet other Women of Power The Gulf Coast African American Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Women of Power conference in March. the featured speaker is Vivica A. Fox, actress, producer and businesswomen. Read on here to find out who else will be there. UWF is building on the past in Belmont-DeVilliers. The building at 321 N. DeVilliers St. has been many things in its life cycle. Now that the University of West florida’s Innovation Institute is there, the building is turning another chapter in its long history.
