Today could be a bit more cold than first forecasted and it's going to get colder. According to the National Weather Service Mobile, very cold temperatures will affect the area by Thursday morning. Even during the day Thursday, most places will not see above 40° north of Interstate 10. Wind chills will be single digits as well over virtually anyplace outside 5 or 10 miles of the coast. We will have cool dry conditions for the week. Rain chances rebound over the weekend. COLD WEATHER SHELTER The cold weather shelter for the homeless and heatless at Ferris Hill Baptist Church in Milton is open all week. The center will open nightly on Jan. 5 – 9, at the church at 6848 Chaffin St. in Milton. Those who would like to stay at the shelter must arrive between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. No one will be admitted after 8:30 p.m. unless brought in by law enforcement. The shelter closes at 7 a.m. each morning. The shelter is an all-volunteer operation. The shelters are for people who are homeless or cannot maintain heat in their home, can care for themselves, and are not at risk to themselves or others. No one will be admitted to the shelter if they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, are unable to walk unaided or are disoriented.
