UWF Historic Trust presents "Revenge of the Creature" as finale of Florida-filmed movie series

The University of West Florida Historic Trust concludes its film series in conjunction with the traveling exhibit, “Beaches, Creatures and Cowboys: Florida Movie Posters” with the 1955 movie "Revenge of the Creature", Saturday Jan. 31 at 6 p.m at the J. Earle Bowden Building. The film, starring John Agar and Lori Nelson and directed by Jack Arnold, is the sequel to the classic "Creature From The Black Lagoon" and was filmed on location in various parts of Florida, including Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Silver Springs and the Marineland Amusement Park. Earle Bowden Building, 120 Church St. Free admission [/sidebar] There will refreshments and fun facts about the film will be presented before the screening. Attendees are also encouraged to wear costumes for a chance to win tickets to Pensacon 2015 next month. The exhibit, “Beaches, Creatures and Cowboys: Florida Movie Posters” is currently on display at the T.T. Wentworth museum and features a selection of original posters advertising films made in the Sunshine State. Producers have been making films in Florida since the industry began and in the early twentieth century, Florida rivaled California as the the capital of movie-making. The posters and lobby cards in this exhibit depict some of Florida's most famous films from the early 1920s to the present. The exhibit is free to view and will be on display until Feb. 5.
