Two area students are among STEM Florida's highest-achieving scholars. Peyton Parra of Washington High School, and Jessica Laenger of Gulf Breeze High School, on Thursday and Friday will join students from around the state at the 2015 Sunshine State Scholars program in Orlando. The two-awards and recruitment event recognizes the accomplishments of high school juniors in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, and provides a chance for Florida’s colleges and universities to recruit them. Local school districts, Florida Virtual School, Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, and Florida’s developmental research schools choose their top 11th-grade STEM scholar to participate in the conference.
