As of the end of the day today, Leon Martin will be a civilian. Martin, 53, officially retires Feb. 14 as a sergeant with the police department. He worked with PPD for 26 years. Martin was initially hired by the department as a police officer on Jan. 2, 1985, and was employed until Sept. 1, 1990 when he left to work as an officer with the Pinellas Park Police Department. He was rehired as in Pensacola on Feb. 21, 1994 and was promoted to sergeant on July 17, 2000. Among his assignments at the department have been Uniform Patrol, Traffic, TAC, Investigations, Professional Standards, field training officer, and field training sergeant. One of Martin’s plans for retirement is to reactive his Facebook Photo blog, The People of Pensacola, which features random photos and street interviews of people in Pensacola. Martin's work for the blog was featured on Pensacola Today's predecessor site, Progress+Promise. Click here to view those posts.
