Note: A press release submitted by the Wahoos about a wedding planned for Greg Parker and Stephanie Mahaffey on March 28 at the stadium implied that the Parker-Mahaffey wedding was the first at the stadium.

The first wedding held at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium was between Taren and Joshua Wilhelm on Feb. 17, 2013.

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos apologize for the mistake.

Baseball is a game of ups and downs. It can be unpredictable, emotional, challenging and suspenseful. But baseball can be exciting, breathtaking, victorious, and well, wacky at times. But that’s the reason we love it. But for two people, baseball games turned into dates and those dates turned into love, and now that love is turning into the first wedding hosted by the Blue Wahoos at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. Greg Parker, a ticket-holder since 2012, took Stephanie Mahaffey to her first game on April 17th, 2014, two months after their first date. “We love coming out to the games,” said Stephanie. “It’s a great experience and a fun time. There is always a lot of stuff going on.” After that, the couple took in nearly 20 games including a few on the road. Between a dizzy bat race, winning Ray Chang’s Lego jersey and throwing out a first pitch, the couples’ love grew into a November proposal. At that point, Greg and Stephanie knew they had to return to Pensacola Bayfront Stadium to tie the knot in front of family and friends. “It’s a fun, different and fits into our relationship story,” continued Stephanie. “It’s what we did for fun and how we spend time together.” Of course, a wedding with the Blue Wahoos wouldn’t be complete without some fun. Kazoo will escort Stephanie down the aisle with her father while Downtown Dave will serve as a groomsman for Greg. “Knowing them from the ballgames and what kind of fans they are, when they asked me to be in the wedding, there was no hesitation on my part,” said Downtown Dave. “Besides being a part of the beautiful wedding, it’s also historical with it being the first wedding here ever.” So come March 28th, the baseball diamond will be exciting, breathtaking, emotional and beautiful all over again, as Greg and Stephanie stand at home plate to say ‘I Do’.
