The Pensacola Chamber Foundation and the University of West Florida recently announced that Jerry Maygarden has been appointed chairman of the UWF College of Business Advisory Council. Maygarden will be replacing Gen. Michael Ferguson, who served as chairman of the council for nearly two decades.

The advisory council provides advice, guidance and support to the dean and faculty, while also promoting leadership and management in areas such as job opportunities, private fundraising activities and community needs.

A former mayor of Pensacola, Maygarden has also served as a state legislator and majority leader in the Florida House of Representatives. He was the president and chief executive officer for the Baptist Health Care Foundation as well as the Greater Pensacola Chamber. Maygarden currently serves as the executive director for the Pensacola Chamber Foundation.

A graduate of UWF, Maygarden holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in communication arts.
