BRIEFCASE: Lynn Howard earns financial planning spot at Sacred Heart; Maygarden named UWF College of Business advisory council chairman

Sacred Heart Names Regional Director of Financial Planning Lynn Howard has been named regional director of financial planning for Sacred Heart Health System based in Pensacola and Providence Hospital in Mobile. She has more than 27 years of experience with the Daughters of Charity/Ascension Health. Since 1993, Howard has served as director of financial analysis at Providence Hospital. Prior to that position, she was employed there as a financial analyst from January 1988 to June 1993. She began her career there as a staff accountant in June 1987. Howard earned a bachelor’s of science degree in 1985 from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. Currently, she is working on her master’s degree in Business Administration and is anticipating graduating in May this year. She is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Maygarden Named UWF College of Business Advisory Council Chairman The Pensacola Chamber Foundation and the University of West Florida recently announced that Jerry Maygarden has been appointed chairman of the UWF College of Business Advisory Council. Maygarden will be replacing Gen. Michael Ferguson, who served as chairman of the council for nearly two decades. The advisory council provides advice, guidance and support to the dean and faculty, while also promoting leadership and management in areas such as job opportunities, private fundraising activities and community needs. “Professional development and positive achievements are critical components that lead to future success,” said Maygarden. “I am honored to serve in this role, and I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that the University has produced throughout its history.” A former mayor of Pensacola, Maygarden has also served as a state legislator and majority leader in the Florida House of Representatives. He was the president and chief executive officer for the Baptist Health Care Foundation as well as the Greater Pensacola Chamber. Maygarden currently serves as the executive director for the Pensacola Chamber Foundation. A graduate of UWF, Maygarden holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in communication arts. He also completed professional development programs in public policy and church administration conducted by the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, respectively.
