UWF women's basketball earns no. 4 seed in NCAA South Regional

The West Florida women’s basketball team was named the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament South Regional by the NCAA Selection Committee when it announced tournament bids Sunday night on NCAA.com. The Argonauts (19-8, 16-6 GSC) will play No. 5 seed Benedict (23-6, 15-2 SIAC) March 13 at tournament host Union (Tenn.) in Jackson, Tenn. “I am extremely pleased that we were selected to represent the GSC in the NCAA Regional tournament and continue our season,” UWF coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. “We are in the company of some very competitive teams and a very strong regional field. This selection is a reward for the hard work and dedication our team has given throughout this season.” UWF finished the regular season with a 19-8 overall record, tied for the fifth-most wins in school history. UWF won the most Gulf South Conference games in school history with a 16-6 record and had the sixth-best conference winning percentage in school history at .727. No. 1 seed Union (Tenn.), No. 2 Nova Southeastern and No. 8 Albany State earned automatic bids after winning the Gulf South, Sunshine State and Intercollegiate Athletics conference tournaments.
