The Naval Aviation Museum Foundation will present the 29th annual Symposium May 6-8 at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. The three-day event will host a variety of activities highlighting the unique history and proud heritage of Naval Aviation including a golf tournament, luncheon, banquet and panel sessions. Three sessions will feature a panel of veteran naval aviators discussing milestones in Naval aviation history and the people who have made and are currently making that history. The Symposium panel discussions are free and open to the general public, active duty and retired military. A half century ago, the United States fully entered the Vietnam conflict, a war that would last for more than seven years, cost 54,000 American casualties and result in a profound change on the homefront. The role of Naval aviation in the Vietnam War will be discussed during two sessions, “Air War Vietnam” and “HA(L)-3 Seawolves; Navy Assault Helicopters in Vietnam,” on May 7. Each session will include first-hand accounts of Navy and Marine combat missions over North Vietnam as well as South Vietnam with Riverine forces, Army and ARVN units and special operations.
