Cox to present free computers as part of Connect2Compete program

Cox Communications is happy to announce that it will present 50 Gulf Coast families with a free refurbished desktop computer during two events along the Gulf Coast this week, as part of the Connect2Compete program. In order to receive the computer, families had to show a commitment to their student’s education, by signing up for the Connect2Compete program during the months of February and March. The families will stop by Cox offices during the events listed below to pick up their free computer:

Okaloosa County – 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Cox Communications office at 320 Racetrack Road in Fort Walton Beach.

Escambia County – 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the Cox Communications office at 2205 Lavista Avenue in Pensacola.

The Internet is playing a more significant role in the lives of our children, including in their classroom assignments. Today, 76 percent of teachers assign homework online and communicate with parents through email. Low income students who do not have access to the Internet at home are being left behind. That’s why Cox and Connect2Compete have partnered to bring this program to the Gulf Coast.

Connect2Compete is a K12 program run by EveryoneOn, a national, not-for-profit organization that connects low income families with reduced price high speed Internet, reduced priced computers and free digital training. Through the program, families receive high speed Internet for only $9.95 a month, plus tax, with no other fees. To qualify for Connect2Compete, families must have at least one child enrolled in the National Free Lunch Program, not be a current Cox Internet Customer, have no bad debt with Cox and live within the Cox serviceable area.

The computer giveaway is made possible by a grant from the James M. Cox Foundation. The grant, awarded to the Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council in Baton Rouge, LA, is supplying 500 refurbished computers to families in Cox’s Southeast Region including Escambia and Okaloosa counties.
