Fans of the Hip Pocket Deli can rejoice. The Warrington fixture, which closed through eminent domain for a road construction project, as found new life as food truck, reports Taris Savell in the Pensacola News Journal.
"We wanted to keep the name and family business alive," said George Makris. "I have a passion for food and have been in the industry for 16 years. I was the chef at Angus Steakhouse prior to it's closing. I built this 24-foot food truck to be able to express myself through my food." The self-contained truck has a complete kitchen line with a rotisserie for gyros, a fryer, a griddle, a four-eye burner, an oven, a deli box, a freezer, six feet of counter space, a hand-washing sink and a merchandiser for drinks. The traveling restaurant prepares many of the Hip Pocket's most popular menu choices, including subs, sandwiches, Reubens, Philly cheesesteaks, gyros and salads. Makris is also planning to be available for catering events.
