This afternoon, Carver Park in Cantonment will see a new chapter in its community unfold.

At a 4 p.m. event, the Cantonment Resource Center will be dedicated in the park at 208 Webb St. The County Parks and Recreation Department and the Cantonment Improvement Committee have worked diligently over the past year to make this possible, getting a helping hand along the way from Pensacola Habitat for Humanity.

The dedication will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony acknowledging the hard work the CIC has already put in, and a look at what’s still to come. The Resource Center will serve as office space for the CIC, but will also provide critical assets to the local community, including: leadership trainings, youth programs, educational opportunities, and access to computers and other technology.

The CIC has organized and executed a multitude of cleanups, beautification projects, and other community-based events over the past three-plus years.

With the addition of a Community Resource Center, the Cantonment Improvement Committee expects to see both their membership and community impact greatly magnified.

Josh Womack and Mike Riley, members of the Committee, were guests on The Daily Brew on May 14.
