More than 150 people attended the Studer Community Institute's latest workplace training Tuesday morning at Hillcrest Baptist Church. The half-day seminar, “Hiring Talent: Increasing the Effectiveness of Employee Selection,” was the third in a series of free ongoing opportunities for businesses and not-for-profit organizations offered by the Institute. Previous trainings have covered topics including strategic planning and improving organizational culture. “Hiring Talent” focused on the importance of careful employee hiring processes. The training also discussed ways to onboard and orient new employees and retain existing employees. Institute founder Quint Studer said the training addressed a need expressed by participants in previous Studer Community Institute seminars. “Hiring of employees was the most often requested topic based on feedback received by the Institute,” Studer said. “We are pleased to offer leadership skill building sessions. It is an important way to improve the quality of life in the area. We are grateful to have a great faculty for this session and the others that will follow.” Two professionals with real-world experience in hiring and training employees conducted the training. Amie Remington serves as General Counsel to Landrum Human Resource where she advises staff and clients on employment law and human resources. Remington is a frequent speaker to employers and human resource professionals on a variety of workforce topics. Amie is on the board of Pensacola MESS Hall and was also a member of Leadership Pensacola. Kristine Rushing of Beck Partners Insurance is a Certified Insurance Consultant and also a John Maxwell Certified Coach. Rushing has been involved in several civic organizations including the Pensacola Young Professionals and Leadership Pensacola. She is co-founder of Bridging the Gap consulting, which works with individuals and groups to improve their personal and professional growth. “Redeveloping our hiring process was one of the most impactful decisions that we’ve made in our organizations because of the difference that it’s made in our culture, the quality of our team and the level of service that our clients receive and not to mention the financial implications that it has on a small growing business,” said Rushing. “As a result, we’ve learned that having the right team members on board allows us to intentionally focus on our clients and their needs.” For more information on the Studer Community Institute and upcoming training seminars, visit StuderCommunity.Institute or call (850) 432-8982.
