Families, friends, neighbors and visitors may bring a picnic basket of food, games, chairs or a blanket, and plenty of smiles to this family-friendly day under the big oak tree behind 500 W. Belmont St. Family Fun Day — set for every Saturday through October — is free and open to the public.

Enjoying children’s art projects, listening and dancing to music, playing family games, touring the neighborhood’s history and culture, and visiting the area’s restaurants, stores and parks are a part of the activities.

“This is a celebration of what makes this community special,” said Beverly Perry, the neighborhood association vice-president. “It’s all about our families and friends relaxing and enjoying each other.”

The fun days will occur under the big oak tree behind the DeVilliers Heritage Museum and the Dwarf Chicken Restaurant. Fun Days participants may bring their own food or purchase food from the area restaurants. Future events include storytelling, movie nights, star gazing and many other activities.
