Escambia County Commissioners will have a special meeting at 9:01 a.m. on Aug. 13 to consider adopting changes to the ordinances governing construction and demolition debris and land clearing debris pits.

The meeting will come before the commissioners' usual committee of the whole meeting — to begin immediately following. Commissioners have been discussing the changes for months, spurred on in great part by the efforts of residents of the Wedgewood neighborhood.

Wedgewood neighbors have had complaints for years about both construction and demolition and land clearing debris pits in their area. Rolling Hills landfill is the one that has captured most recent headlines.

Both the county and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection have sanctioned the owners of Rolling Hills in recent months. Owners of that landfill are supposed to meet with DEP this week to discuss plans to mitigate issues at the site.

The meetings will be held in the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, Board Chambers, Room 100, 221 Palafox Place, Pensacola, Florida.
