New study: Florida schools are just about average

How does Florida stack up against other schools across the U.S.?

About average, according to a new study by WalletHub, which ranks states by best and worst school systems.

Of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Florida landed at 23 in overall school system quality.

The study examined 13 key metrics, including school safety, test scores and bullying, Some of the metrics were weighed more heavily than others.

Florida schools ranked 20th in school safety, and 26 in school-system quality.

The study also lists the top and bottom five states in dropout rates, math test scores, reading rest scores, average SAT score, public-teacher ratio, and safety.

Massachusetts took the top spot as the No. 1 ranked school in the country. Alaska came in last at No. 51.

Florida ranked No. 1 in only one category, scoring the lowest in Bullying Incidents Rate.
