Key question for every business leader

As a business owner how do you determine what your number one priority is every day?

This was a hot topic for discussion at a recent CEO breakfast hosted by Quint Studer.

A good CEO brings clarity and focus to organizational outcomes every day. And yet, many CEOs find their day consumed by the business of doing business.

The key is to find order and remain focused on your business’ top priority while not letting the grind of daily responsibility divert your focus. Not knowing or moving away from the number one thing that drives the business can have dire consequences.

My husband, a commercial airline pilot, has a very complex job. He has to understand flight systems, avionics, instrumentation, weather and so on. Some of these factors are in constant flux. Yet he understands that his number one job is to get safely from point a to point b. Everything else flows from that.

If you have ever been to watch a Blue Wahoos game you will very quickly realize that every employee knows fan experience is the top priority. From the CEO to the ushers, everyone understands that if fans have a great time, they will come back. Those return customers drive revenue through tickets, food and beverages and in the gift shop. More revenue keeps the business of the Wahoos flowing.

Which leaves the key question for any business leader: When it comes to your business, what does everything flow from, and how do you build your day around bringing that to life?
