The City of Pensacola says the Vickrey Resource Center is set to open it's doors to the public at 9 a.m. Nov. 16.

The neighborhood resource center has been closed since April 2014 due to extensive damage from the record breaking flooding. Estimates were that $1.7 million in damage was done to the community center. Repairs were done by A.E. New Jr. Inc.

Staff are putting the finishing touches on the facility over the next week to ensure that it is ready to open and resume normal operation.

“We’re ready to get reopened and start seeing our friends in the area neighborhoods and we hope to see some new faces too,” said Thomas Brame, Recreation Area Manager for Parks and Recreation.

Starting Nov. 16, the public can enroll or drop in for a fitness class, sign up for the youth basketball league, use the weight room, find out about facility rentals, and more. An open house is currently being planned for some time in December.

“We have new instructors and classes as well as some returning favorites already on the schedule,” said Brame. A full schedule of classes is available online at PlayPensacola.com.

The Vickrey Resource Center is located at 2130 Summit Blvd in the Roger Scott Athletic Complex. To reach the resource center by phone call (850) 912-4056.
