From the U.S. Small Business Administration’s report for 2015.

A Senate Republican on Wednesday proposed creating a sales-tax "holiday" for small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, one of the busiest shopping times of the year.

The bill (SB 1236), filed by Sen. Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, is similar to a measure (HB 721) filed last month by Rep. Jay Fant, R-Jacksonville, and Rep. Ed Narain, D-Tampa.

The bills, which will be considered during the upcoming legislative session, would create a "Small Business Saturday" tax holiday on Nov. 26 next year.

While a small business is defined as one that employs fewer than 500 people, data from the Small Business Administration shows that 32 percent of the businesses in Florida have fewer than 100 employees.

Lawmakers considered such a proposal during the 2015 session, but it did not get approved in a final tax package.
