Children’s Home Society of Florida received a $15,000 donation on behalf of the Gulf Power Foundation.
Funds will benefit the Community School project at C.A. Weis Elementary, on North Q Street. Children’s Home Society of Florida is leading the effort to build a Community School at Weis, in partnership with the Escambia County School District, Escambia Community Clinic and the University of West Florida.
Established as of Jan. 7, the community school is beginning to lift the non-educational barriers from the children at Weis by providing health services on-site, including medical, dental, behavioral health care and nutrition support, as well as mentoring and enhanced learning through essential community partnerships.
In the future, Weis Community School will provide afterschool growth opportunities to students, their families, and community residents.
“The Gulf Power Foundation’s very generous donation is an investment in the future of the children of Weis and our community,” said Tim Putman, Executive Director of Children’s Home Society of Florida. “We’re grateful for their support and look forward to our continued partnership.”
“Education is one of the Gulf Power Foundation’s primary giving focuses, so it just makes sense to support the Community School initiative at C. A. Weis, and the agencies, such as Children’s Home Society of Florida, who are making it happen,” said Gary Sammons, Western District General Manager at Gulf Power. “Children and families are going to have better outcomes and futures because of this program and we are glad to be a small part of that success.”
