Build a brain, build a life, build a community.

That's the mantra for the Studer Community Institute as we work toward creating an Early Learning in Pensacola.

It means that we want everyone to see the link between the how well prepared our young children are for school and the quality of life for everyone in the community. It's a link that research from the University of Kansas to the University of Chicago and beyond has shown impacts a community at every level.

The path from school readiness to reading skills in third grade to graduating high school in four years has many steps — and all of them must include parents so that they can succeed.

In this episode of the SCI TV show, airing on BlabTV, we look at how to put into practice what experts say helps build a child's brain. The "secret sauce" isn't so secret, really. The fuel that makes a child's brain grow in the first years of life is language — words spoken by a caring adult to a child's eager ears.

That early brain development is the crucial foundation of school readiness. We hope these videos can help family members and caregivers see what right looks like and put it into practice.
