A company that offers free dental, vision and medical services is coming to Pensacola in December for a two-day clinic event.
Remote Area Medical, the largest nongovernmental organization that operates mobile medical clinics delivering free dental, vision, and medical services to underserved and uninsured individuals, will be in Pensacola on Dec. 2-3.
RAM will set up shop near Pensacola High School, 500 W. Maxwell St.
U.S. census data for Escambia County, Florida’s 19th largest county by population, shows that 14.1 percent of the people living there lack health insurance coverage. Poverty rates in the county also exceed the national average of 14.3 percent.
Due to these factors, RAM and its corps of volunteers expect to treat nearly 1,000 people during the two-day clinic. All of RAM’s services are free and no ID is required.
“There are thousands of people in Pensacola and the surrounding community who lack access to affordable care,” said RAM Founder & President Stan Brock. “No matter how much we talk about improving our healthcare system, unless we add vision and dental coverage, people will continue to be in pain and suffering just because they don’t have access to a doctor or can’t afford one.”
Patient parking will be available at PHS. The clinic parking lot will open no later than midnight on Saturday, Dec. 2. Ticket distribution begins at 3 a.m., and patients will be seen in chronological order according to their ticket number as clinic doors open at 6 a.m.
The same process repeats on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Services available at the Pensacola RAM clinic will include dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental x-rays, eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, free eyeglasses, women’s health care, and general medical exams.
