Owning the ’66 percent’

In 2014, 66 percent of 5-year-olds in Escambia County were ready for school on the first day of kindergarten.

That same year, 66 percent of Escambia students were expected to graduate high school on time in four years with their peers.

Research shows that children who begin kindergarten behind, often remain behind throughout their school career. Sadly, Escambia’s data showed that many of our children were not making up the ground they had lost early on.

The Studer Community Institute and BlabTV staff produced this public service announcement to highlight the issue.
