Hiring is one of the biggest challenges companies face and it can be one of the most rewarding opportunities.

Finding the right person for the right job will help you avoid costly and time-consuming mistakes and have a positive impact on your business.

Kristine Rushing, COO of Beck Partners, has some good ideas on how you can find the perfect person every time.

Rushing will share her expertise and advice on Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Studer Community Institute’s workshop at Northwest Hall, Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Doors open and registration begins at 8 a.m. The workshop begins at 8:30 and ends at 11:30 a.m.

Workshop attendees will learn key basics that every leader responsible for selecting, hiring and orienting employees needs to know.

They also will participate in hands-on activities and role-playing exercises to enhance their learning experience.

Among other things, they will learn:

  • ROI of investing time and money in good hiring processes
  • The cost of employee turnover
  • The four-part selection and retention process
  • How to pre-screen with Standards of Behavior
  • Common pitfalls
  • How to conduct a successful interview and select the right person for the right job
  • Behavioral interviewing and STAR model
  • How to conduct a peer interview

In addition to the main workshop, attendees will get an update on a Bonus Employment Law. The Department of Labor on Dec. 1 will implement new regulations regarding overtime payment.

Employment law expert Amie Remington will share valuable information on the “why” behind the changes to the regulations, as well as the practical, day-to-day implications of the changes and how the law will affect businesses.

Remington, general counsel for Landrum Human Resource Co. Inc., will provide proactive measures leaders can take to ensure that their company is compliant with state and federal regulations and laws regarding the payment of wages.

Keeping abreast of new rules and regulations is critical for businesses to steer clear of trouble and costly lawsuits.

Likewise, hiring the right people is crucial for the success of a business and that’s why entrepreneurs should have an effective hiring process in place when looking for new employees.

By putting time and work into finding the right people, you will improve your chances of hiring the best performers and avoiding costly and painful mistakes.

Many entrepreneurs have good instincts about whether someone is right or not for the job. But you shouldn’t rely just on gut feelings.
