Lisa Nellessen-Lara, Pensacola News Journal Executive Editor, has a story of the ground breaking today at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Sacred Heart Hospital broke ground on its multi-million dollar children’s hospital this morning on the grounds of the current campus and announced it would be named The Studer Family Children’s Hospital.

The new building, completion of which will mark the first phase of the project, will be the home of a consolidated and expanded neonatal intensive care unit. Six pediatric-dedicated operating rooms will be built, creating a child-friendly environment designed to include family support. The pediatric emergency department and trauma center also will be relocated and expanded. The current space will continue to be a part of the Children's Hospital. Some units will remain and be expanded while others will move to the new building, which is expected to be completed by late 2017 or early 2018.
