Look at the big brains on these kids. Thirteen Pensacola High School seniors are among those recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their achievement. The honors are based on students’ scores on the PSAT, which is taken by more than 1.5 million high school juniors each year. Nathan Deng, Caroline Fleischhauer, Preston Jones and Richard Sliva have qualified as National Merit Semifinalists. The semifinalists are among the 16,000 highest-scoring entrants and are in competition for some 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth about $35 million that will be offered next spring. Letters of Commendation are awarded nationally to 34,000 students, including PHS seniors Rebecca Daigle, Ellery Jones, Kelsie McCall, Connor Peet, Christian Watkins and Krista Woods. These students are candidates for scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses. Tia Little and Tianna Little have been named National Achievement Scholars. The National Achievement Scholarship Program recognizes the top 4,700 entrants from among the 160,000 students who qualify for the program. Clara Ortega has been named in the National Hispanic Recognition Program, which honors the 5,000 highest scoring Hispanic students from among the 250,000 students who qualify for the program. Congratulations all. [progresspromise]
