Some 230 people filled the reception hall at Brownsville Assembly of God Church tonight to hear from several elected officials and community leaders at a town hall meeting hosted by Escambia County Commissioner Lumon May.

At May’s invitation, Quint Studer, owner of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and businessman and philanthropist; Malcolm Thomas, superintendent of Escambia Schools; David Stafford, Supervisor of Elections; David Morgan, Escambia Sheriff; LuTimothy May, pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church; Ashton Hayward, Pensacola Mayor; Casey Rodgers, U.S. District Chief Judge; and Lonnie Wesley, pastor of Greater Little Rock Baptist Church took questions from the crowd.

Progress+Promise editor Shannon Nickinson served as co-moderator.

The majority of the questions focused on education issues, from the K-12 level up to workforce training opportunities. One of the hottest topics for Superintendent Thomas was around plans for the district, should the half-cent sales tax be renewed by voters in the fall, that would include building several new schools in the central, west and north and redistricting attendance zones.
