Escambia Sheriff's K-9 tops at national trials

Members of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office traveled to Wilson, N.C., last week for the U.S. Police Canine Association National Police Dog Trials where the Sheriff’s Office’s four-man team had the best total team combined score from all regions.

The team includes Wayne Gulsby and Caleb; Jason Land and Edo; Mark Smith and Jeck; and Foley, Ala., Police Officer Carlos Lizarraga and Saban. The team of Lizarraga and Saban, who trains with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, was rated fourth overall in obedience.

There were 104 K-9 teams that competed in the event. The best police K-9 teams from 15 states competed in various categories including criminal apprehension, obedience and agility.
