This year the Pensacola Blue Wahoos paid their landlord — the Community Maritime Park Board — some $722,000 in fees.

But according to a story in the Pensacola News Journal, the CMPA still is in the red and looking for ways to generate more revenue for the waterfront development.

The CMPA's options for revenue could include concerts or events at the Skip Hunter Amphitheater in the park, selling the naming rights to the stadium or leasing any of the other nine vacant parcels on the site.

The CMPA has turned down at least two financial opportunities, however, including hosting a downtown YMCA branch on the site and an offer by Studer for naming rights to the stadium for $125,000 a year.

The CMPA requested the Wahoos increase ticket surcharges in September to increase ticket revenue, but the Wahoos declined. The CMPA also hired a consultant to explore how much revenue could be raised by selling naming rights. A market study has not been completed to determine how much that could be, but some experts have said it will be a difficult sell in a market Pensacola's size.
