Twelve Pensacola State College students were recognized for excellence in publications at the annual meeting of the Florida College Press Association last month. Three students received first-place awards for their work on The Corsair, PSC’s student newspaper. Ben Sheffler’s story on the dismantling of the college’s developmental studies program took first place for in-depth reporting.  Josh Enrile’s anti-smoking illustration and Allyson Doty’s column about PSC basketball also placed first in their categories. A short story by Corbin Dukes, “The List Goes On,” took first prize for fiction in the magazine division. Dukes published his story in The Kilgore Review, PSC’s student-produced literary magazine. Other winners for work on The Corsair were J. Scott Southworth, second place for arts review; Alexis Lugo, second place for feature writing; Enrile, third place for comic strip; and Chelsea Zachary, third place for feature photo and third place for picture story. Other winners for work on The Kilgore Review were artists Jason Parkerson, Tanya Salas, and Emily Woodson, who took second place for their illustrations.   Kevin Aitchson and Holly MacNaughton shared third-place honors for the magazine’s staff page. In overall competition, The Corsair placed third in general excellence. Mike Ensley was adviser to The Corsair during the contest year.  English Professor Mike Will advises The Kilgore Review. Each year PSC publications enter the annual competition with publications from other public colleges across Florida.  The press association is a division of the Florida College System Activities Association.
