Some good news arrived today for Escambia County School District as high school graduation rates in the 2013-14 school year rose to 66.1 percent, nearly 2 percentage points higher than the previous year, the Florida Department of Education reported today. The graduation rate in the county since 2011 has increased more than 8 percentage points, but at 66 percent it remains well below the state’s graduation rate of 76.1, an 11-year high. Santa Rosa County also increased its graduation rate to 82.8 percent, a nearly 4-percentage point improvement over last year. The bad news is that fewer high schools in the state earned A’s this year than the previous year, even though the state’s high school graduation rate reached an 11-year high, state officials announced this morning. But three Santa Rosa schools increased their school grade. Gulf Breeze High School and Pace High School increased their grades from a B to an A in 2014, and Central High School increased its grade from a C to a B. Milton High School maintained it A grade from the previous year. More details to come.
