Put on your best attire and brush up on the resume. Job seekers look for a new gig or a career change are invited to a Career and Business event in Century. The University of West Florida Haas Center for Business Research & Economic Development and Pensacola State College Student Jobs Services are co-sponsoring the career affair on Jan. 30. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., about 20 employers, who are actively hiring, will be on hand at the Pensacola State College Century Center, 440 E. Hecker Road. The career fair is part of an economic development agreement between Century and the UWF Haas Center. “Job seekers face challenges going into Pensacola to attend career fairs and hiring events,” said Allison Tyler, economic development coordinator with the Haas Center. “Any time we can bring employers to Century, it helps to eliminate some of these barriers to employment.” Gulf Power, Navy Federal Credit Union, Home Depot, Lowe’s, the Century Care Center and other local employers will have representatives available to meet with people seeking employment. Staff members from about 10 state agencies and nonprofit organizations, including the Florida Department of Children and Families, Community Action Program Pensacola and the PSC Education Opportunity Center, also will be at the career fair to provide assistance. Representatives from the Florida SBDC at UWF also will attend the event to speak with business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs about consulting services offered by the SBDC. For more information, call Allison Tyler at (850) 256-3155 or Sherry Duffey at (850) 484-1653.
