Levin family donates $1 million to new YMCA

The YMCA of Northwest Florida announced this morning that the Levin family has made a $1 million gift to support the construction of its new facility in downtown Pensacola.
The gift is a combined donation from Fred Levin and Teri Levin.
“This new YMCA will help create an even more vibrant downtown Pensacola,” Teri Levin said. “So many people will benefit – working adults, local families, youth and seniors will all find something just for them in this new Y. Our family is thrilled to make a meaningful gift that will help this dream become a reality.”

YMCA Board chairman Jon Kagan thanked the Levin family and Teri Levin in particular for their commitment to the YMCA and its goals of youth development, wellness and community involvement.
“The Levin family has supported this project since its inception, and now they’ve made a personal commitment to ensure its success.” Kagan said.
The Levin family joins the Bear Family Foundation, which donated $1 million and Quint and Rishy Studer, who donated $5 million and the land at Intendencia and Tarragona streets, as lead donors to the project.
Project development for the new Y continues to move forward.
“This new building will help drive continued downtown revitalization and build on our Y’s 130-year history of serving this community,” said CEO Michael Bodenhausen.

The new facility will replace the current downtown Y location, which is outdated, cramped and lacking in handicapped accessibility. It will be approximately 52,000 square feet, more than twice the square footage of the current building.
Through its three branches — downtown, Northeast and Pullum — the Y annually reaches more than 12,000 children and adults in wellness, childcare, sports, camp, aquatics and community outreach programs.
