The centerpiece of this next wave of downtown development is the $50 million, 260-unit apartment and retail building planned for the former Pensacola News Journal site at Romana and Jefferson streets.
The city’s Architectural Review Board reviewed the renderings at their May 21 meeting.
Plans call for the building be completed and ready for occupancy by late 2016. Quint and Rishy Studer purchased the site for $3.4 million in 2013.
There are elements of the design that are meant to mirror facets of neighboring buildings and pay homage to architectural styles traditionally reflected in buildings from Pensacola's past.
