A view of Montana Mex's refinished floors.

Lifeshucker founder Jessica Zemple has a new blog post up on Inc. about how for one startup, Montana Mex, a found box of vintage Playboy magazines became a key driver of their success.

After seeking a second mortgage to try and finance their business, the company found that the cost of refurbishing their home, particularly the floors which would cost over $5,000, made it almost impossible.

That's when co-founder Jennifer Jane came up with an idea for the magazines that her partner and co-founder Eduardo Garcia had found.

Jennifer cleverly ripped out the pages of the Playboys and a few other magazines, tiled them across the entire floor, glued them in place, and coated it with polyurethane to fulfill the requirements of a finished floor-all for a total of $150.

The pair got their refinancing and the company is now thriving.

A creative, but simple solution helped their business survive.

In her column, Zemple offers six simple tips that can make a difference for any struggling entrepreneur.

As unfathomable as it may seem, I guarantee there is a solution-and likely multiple-that will help you tackle the mountain and come out on top.
